Seresto® Flea And Tick Collar
Seresto® is the #1 vet-recommended flea and tick collar* that works for 8 continuous months. It’s easy to use, and better for your budget than monthly flea and tick treatments. That’s why Seresto® has over 41 million collars sold and is stocked in over 8,000 vet clinics nationwide.
How does Seresto work?
Seresto is not just any ordinary collar!
Hidden inside Seresto is a unique polymer matrix – this clever little thing stores the active ingredients needed to protect your pet from fleas and ticks for 7-8 months without the need for repeated application!
Even better, that matrix is able to slowly distribute low controlled doses of the flea and tick fighting combo across your pet’s skin and coat, all the way from the tip of their tail to each of their toes. As these naturally start to wear off your pet’s coat (e.g. through hair and skin cells, as they shed) Seresto will top them back up. Pretty cool.
This ensures long-lasting efficacy and eliminates the need for more frequent treatment.
As fleas and ticks come into contact with your pet, they are paralyzed before falling off and dying – helping to protect your pet from any of the nasty diseases that they may be carrying.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to apply Seresto?
Keep the Seresto collar in the packaging until you’re ready to use it. Once open, remove the small plastic connectors inside the collar before using.
Place the collar around your cat or dog’s neck and adjust, the ratchet system and loop will secure it in place.
A proper fit means the collar can’t slide over your pet’s head, but you should be able to insert two fingers between your pet’s neck and the collar. This ensures the collar is not too tight but will still stay in place.
Cut off any excess length of the collar that extends more than 2 cm past the loop, leaving more if you have a growing puppy or kitten.
After trimming, dispose of any remnants or off-cuts of the collar appropriately.
For growing puppies or kittens, check the fit of the collar regularly to ensure it’s the correct tightness.
How does the Seresto Flea and Tick Control collar work?
The Seresto collar is a unique polymer matrix containing two active ingredients, which spread over the skin surface and hair coat of your dog or cat:
- Imidacloprid has been used in veterinary medicinal products for years to control flea infestations.
- Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks.
Seresto works similarly to a monthly topical in the fact that the active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface. The active ingredients in Seresto are released in low concentrations from within the collar and, thanks to your pet’s skin and coat, spread from head to toes, even the tail. As the active ingredients wear off over time, a new supply is continuously replenished in low concentrations for 7-8 months. The long-lasting, 7-8 month duration of Seresto differentiates it from other flea and tick collars.
What makes it different from other flea and tick collars?
Compared to other tick and flea collars, the Seresto Flea and Tick Control collar uses innovative technology that enables it to release controlled doses of the active ingredients over a long period of time. The ingredients are transferred to your cat’s skin and coat, and spread across her entire body, keeping her protected from fleas and ticks for 7-8 months. Clinically proven to kill fleas and actively repel and kill ticks.
Do I need a prescription for the Seresto collar?
The Seresto Flea and Tick control collar used to be a prescription-only product meaning it was only available from licensed veterinarians, but now it is freely available without a prescription. This has made the process of protecting your furry friend even easier. But it is important to make sure you are getting a genuine Seresto Flea and Tick Control collar – that’s why we recommend you purchase from your local veterinary practice, a high street pet retailer or agricultural store. If you are buying online, we recommend using one of our official partners.
Is Seresto waterproof?
Seresto is water-resistant, it can withstand your pet being bathed, shampooed and getting wet. Any of the substances that are washed up will be quickly redistributed across the coat.
However, the duration of the collar’s efficacy can shorten when exposed to extensive shampooing and intense water exposure. Although monthly shampooing or water immersion has been shown not to shorten the duration of Seresto’s efficacy for repelling and killing ticks, the product’s flea killing efficacy can gradually decrease starting in the fifth month.
Can the collar be used alongside normal collars?
Absolutely. The Seresto Flea and Tick Control collar can be worn alongside your pet´s usual collar without compromising its efficacy, provided the Seresto collar is still in contact with the animal’s coat.
Are Seresto dog collars safe around children and babies?
The Seresto Flea and Tick Control collar contains a special ‘polymer matrix’ within the collar and this keeps the largest amount of active substances within the collar so that there is a low amount on the outside. However, do not allow children to play with the collar, or to put it in their mouth.
